Frequently Asked Questions

Where do tutoring sessions take place?

Sessions typically take place in the convenience of your own home. Tutors can also meet your students at a public location, such as a coffee shop or library, if you would prefer. For students who live more than 20 minutes from Manhattan by train, in-home tutoring can be arranged at a higher rate.

How long is each session?

Students preparing for standardized tests usually meet their tutors for 1.5 hours twice a week. For homework help and academic coursework, 1 hour per week may suffice. Your tutor can help you determine how often your student should receive tutoring.

When do your tutors meet with students?

Once your student is paired with a tutor, we provide you with that tutor's contact information so you can schedule sessions directly with them. Sessions most often take place after school or on weekends, but they can also be scheduled during the day if your student is available.

How do I contact my tutor?

We will provide you with the tutor's cell phone number and email. Tutors are expected to respond to phone calls and emails throughout the week, not just on days they are scheduled to meet with your student.

What is your cancellation policy?

Manhattan Tutors maintains a 24-hour cancellation policy. Please give your tutor as much notice as possible if you need to cancel a session. In the event of an unexpected illness or family emergency, your tutor may opt to reschedule the session.
